Entertainment | Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge Review

Salazar's Revenge is the fifth and newest installment in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean series. Like many others, I thought the last one wasn’t great but I do enjoy this franchise and felt I couldn’t miss out on seeing the new film.

Overall the film was very good, despite being a little slow at points. The CGI work was very impressive and the film had a some laugh out loud moments with Johnny Depp in particular being as funny as ever as Captain Jack Sparrow. Aside from Jack, the film centered round it’s two new young leads, Brendan Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario, who both gave a good performance. However the highlight for me were the cameo’s of a few past characters but I shall say no more on that!

I have later discovered that there is a post credits scene that intriguingly sets up the story for a potential sixth instalment so if you’re going to watch this movie, don’t turn it off before the credits!

Lifestyle | July Favourites 2017

Well I haven't done these posts in a while but July was a good month for good things so I thought I would share a few!

Entertainment | Orange Is The New Black Season 5 Review (Spoilers)

Orange Is the New Black is now over for another year. I suppose it would last longer if I spaced the episodes out a bit more but binge watching over the space of two nights as soon as it's released is definitely more fun! The year long wait however for the next season, not so fun.

Season 5 was a little bit different compared to previous seasons but I honestly really enjoyed the show this year. It's taken me quite some time to compile my thoughts on this as I honestly have so much to say about it but I have finally managed to summarise both my strong and weak points and this post is a still little long! There will also be spoilers (nothing too huge) from this point on.

Entertainment | Beauty and the Beast Review

As much I as I was looking forward to this film, I wondered if due to the massive hype surrounding it, it just wouldn’t be that great. I was pleased to be proven very wrong as this film is so, so good!

Beauty and the Beast is a live action adaptation of the classic animated Disney tale. It follows the 1991 version pretty closely with some scenes directly mirroring the original (but you might not notice that if you don’t like Beauty and the Beast as much as me).

Entertainment | My Best Dressed at the Oscars

Last night the Oscars finally came around so I'm back with another best dressed list! The Oscars are pitched as being the biggest award show of the season and it's usually where the celebrity fashion game is at it's absolute strongest (and weirdest to be somewhat fair).  The Oscars start too late in the night in the UK so I can't really ever watch the ceremony itself but I always check into the red carpet. In all honestly, I was really underwhelmed this year and quite frankly pretty disappointed. I didn't think the televised coverage was very good and the carpet was just generally quite long and slow moving. I thought the The Golden Globes were ace this year so maybe I was just expecting too much! Here are my best dressed celebs of the night:

Entertainment | Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

After nearly a five year absence, the Resident Evil franchise is back in cinemas with a disappointing limited release for its sixth and final instalment. Resident Evil could be considered the original Walking Dead, spanning over 15 years in cinemas. These movies will never be Academy Award winners but for me, have always delivered in terms of entertainment value.
After following the series for a number of years, it was great to finally see Milla Jovovich’s protagonist Alice finally embarking on taking down the evil Umbrella corporation for good. The plot was a little thin in places but the film was decent overall with the addition of a good few ‘jump scares’ (mostly due to Odeon’s booming sound system). There were a few familiar faces back too but I would have preferred to have seen more returning characters rather than the addition of Ruby Rose whose character is rather forgetful and really for the sake of a big celebrity name.

I think this film would be pretty meaningless if you haven’t watched any of the previous instalments but definitely worth seeing in cinemas if you’re a fan. Even picking up the boxset of past films would be a good way to spend a weekend if you like zombies. Resident Evil was a bit like Harry Potter for me,  I could return to the cinema to watch another part to the story year after year for quite a long time. It's a franchise that I will certainly miss. It was not a spectacular end to the franchise but certainly a good one.

Have you seen the latest Resident Evil? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

Entertainment | My Best Dressed at the SAG Awards

It was the SAG Awards last night so I'm back with another best dressed list! I thought this red carpet was a bit slow to start but it did pick up around half way through. I wasn't as overwhelmed with the looks compared to the Golden Globes earlier this month but there was some really lovely looks. Here are my favourites:

Entertainment | My Best Dressed at the 2017 Golden Globes

Awards Season is OFFICIALLY back! I absolutely love awards season and if you have visited my blog before, you may have seen that I have covered the major awards shows before. It all really started when I was little as I used to love celeb spotting in the crowd of the British Soap Awards more than the actual show itself. I no longer watch the soaps (still do like the Soap Awards, it's a wee bit of a tradition in our house) and I'm really into my US TV and films so it's now all about the Globes and the Emmys.

I live blogged my favourite looks on the red carpet last night on Instagram but here is my full list of best dressed at the Golden Globes 2017. The fashion this time round was unreal, I sometimes struggle to pick a top 5 and this year's Globes could be a top 50!

BLOGMAS 2016 DAY 19 - 10 Celebrity Men I'd like to find under my Christmas Tree (#mcm)

I'm back with more of a novelty kind of post today. Taking into considering it is in fact Man Crush Monday (#mcm),  I thought I would put more of a festive spin on it by choosing 10 celebrity men that I'd like to find under my Christmas tree! Not like this would ever happen but yeah, we can dream right?! Here are my picks in no particular order:

BLOGMAS 2016 DAY 17 - My Favourite Christmas Adverts

One of the first signs of Christmas I think is the start of the Christmas adverts on the telly. Some are so hyped up such as what the John Lewis one will be and who will take the crown for the best Christmas ad of the year. I thought I would share my favourites from recent years for today's post. I have selected my all time favourite, my favourite from this year and one I think deserves a special mention.

BLOGMAS 2016 DAY 6 - TV Boxset Gift Guide

This is my third year now doing Blogmas (how times flies!) and I have featured this every year as I love TV and really pride myself on making a good TV show recommendation. I have picked my recommendations on new and all time personal favourites of mine. I would say they were definitely pitched at girls but that doesn't mean guys couldn't enjoy them too!

Entertainment | My Best Dressed At The Emmy's

We are OFFICIALLY back into awards season aka one of my favourite times of the year. I am usually struggling to choose a top 10 ' Best Dressed' as I like so many of the looks but this year my list is very small. I wasn't able to follow the ceremony as avidly this year but I've caught up on all the winners, the gossip and most importantly the dresses so here's my faves!

Emilia Clarke

My Best Dressed at the Met Gala | Entertainment

Just like awards season, I've compiled my favourite dresses from last week's Met Gala! There is always extravagant ones that are never just quite my thing but amongst that, there were some truly stunning dresses this year. Particular favourites of mine were the Kardashian/Jenner's, they looked so effortlessly beautiful (but is there really anything new there?)

Another stand out for me was Nina Dobrev, she looked every inch the princess in her stunning gold Marchesa gown. Here are some more of my favourite looks from the event:

Kim Kardashian West in Balmain

My Best Dressed At The Oscars!

Well long time no blog! I can't believe it's been a month since I last posted, things can get so hectic! I have had several post ideas swirling around my mind these past weeks but ever seemed to quite manage to get the pen to paper. These will be all coming soon but today I wanted to share  my favourite looks from Sunday Night's Oscars! If you have visited my blog before, you will know how much I adore awards shows. I religiously tune into all the big ceremonies but living in the UK, the time zones make it all a bit tricky! Regardless I always keep up with the red carpet.

I really couldn't decide an absolute favourite look of the night so I went for two! I thought Brie Larson looked gorgeous in this blue dress by Gucci. Her whole look was just effortless and pretty. I was so happy to hear that Brie had won Best Actress for her role in Room. I read the book last week and was lucky enough to also see the film in which her Oscar was well deserved for. I will have a review post up soon!

My Favourite Looks from the 73rd Annual Golden Globes!

The Golden Globes were last night and I'm back again with a fashion post this week! If you've visited my blog before, you'll know that I really love awards shows. I love celebrity spotting and seeing what everyone wears! I'm a bit annoyed with myself though as I fell asleep during the ceremony and missed most of it... It starts at 1am in the UK so it's not exactly ideal! I never watch the whole thing because it goes on until around 4am but I usually last longer than the first half hour! I live blogged my favourite looks last night over on my Instagram page but after seeing more pictures from the after party, here's my best dressed list!

My first look is Emilia Clarke in Valentino, yes it's black but it is so edgy! I rather like how it's not in your face but still very eye catching as it's classy and very modest.

BLOGMAS DAY 19 - 10 Last Minute Gifts £10 & Under

Here are 10 gifts under £10 if you are doing some last minute Christmas Shopping this weekend!

BLOGMAS DAY 15 - Three Things I'm Loving Right Now

Taking a slight deviation from the festive posts to share some things I have been loving recently!

The Amazing Race

Oh my god, I have been OBSESSED with The Amazing Race over the past few weeks. This season has been insanely good! I saw who won on Twitter before I had the chance to watch it and in all honestly, I was a little bit gutted about that. However, I am chuffed that Kelsey and Joey won their first leg in the final and won the $1 million dollars!! They are such deserving winners. I found The Green Team a little overbearing and annoying at times but I did start to feel for them in 2nd last leg. I was happy to see another team win though as they had won so many prizes already by winning 7 legs! I literally cannot wait for the next season with Tyler Oakley and Blair Fowler. Meanwhile I'll be binge watching old seasons on Amazon...

BLOGMAS DAY 8 - Gift Inspiration: For The Binge Watcher

I kind of pride myself in a giving a good TV recommendation so I thought I would share some boxsets that I think a Binge Watcher would love if you are looking for some gift ideas! Providing they haven't seen them already of course. I did a similar post to this last year during Blogmas, some of my picks are the same as I feel they are good enough to mention again! However, I have thrown in some new ones this time round that I think would make great gifts this Christmas.

Pretty Little Liars

PLL was my absolute baby back in 2010 as I literally knew no one who watched it and I could never understand why! I would say of the past year or so it has exploded (probably thanks to Netflix) and now everyone and their cat watches this show. I have never been able to binge watch Pretty Little Liars due to following it for so long now, it has always been a week by week show for me. However, I feel like this would be a brilliant and compelling show to delve into.  If you are totally unfamiliar with this show, it follows the lives of four teenage girls whose friend Alison goes missing one night . Her body is later found so she is presumed to be murdered. The girls are apart for a while before they begin receiving threatening texts from someone called 'A'. Six seasons of mystery follow to discover not only who A is but what really happened to Alison!

BLOGMAS DAY 2 - My Thoughts on Mockingjay Part 2!

A little over a week ago, I saw the very last Hunger Games movie. I feel that the end of the franchise is the end of a specific part of my life in a way as you wait patiently each year for a new release in the series. I saw the first film with one of my university flatmates back in 2012 and my life is so different now, I feel like I have changed so much since then! (Cheesy I know) I wasn't as massive into The Hunger Games as I was into Harry Potter and Twilight but as a film franchise, it was pretty damn good.

I made a pretty big mistake in not reading the last Hunger Games book. I was annoyed at myself for not reading it when I saw Mockingjay Part 1 and a whole year has passed and I still haven't read it! Saying that apart from knowing some of the plot points, I quite enjoyed being totally surprised by the story rather than being annoyed that my favourite part of the book didn't make the cut.

Overall, I personally thought the film was good not great. I don't want to say too much to keep ithis post relatively spoiler free but I will say that I loved the build up to finding Snow as I honestly thought that was both exciting and compelling. However more so towards the end, I was seriously disappointed. I loved the scene with Katniss and Gale sneaking into the crowds to try and enter Snow's mansion with the refugees. All of a sudden though, Katniss was a woman down and the film cut to Snow surrendering and many of the characters just chilling out in his mansion? I swear I missed something important but apparently not! I was really, really excited for a big dramatic showdown between Katniss and Snow but they just had a casual chat in his greenhouse? Maybe I just don't get it but the end segment of the film was seriously underwhelming for me.

On a more positive note, Jennifer Lawrence's performance was fantastic. I love female action heroes though, there is something so empowering about it! I really liked Natalie Dormer who made a second appearance as Cressida, there's something so edgy about her character.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the movie but as the final part of a franchise, I would of liked more closure for the characters we have rooted for in the games for the last 4 years. I feel a good few of the them with Effie, Caesar, Gale in particular really deserved a better ending than they received.

What are your thoughts on the final installment of The Hunger Games franchise?

9 Looks from the AMAs! | Entertainment

Another awards show, another outfits post... If you have been with my blog for a while, you may have seen various posts I have done over the year of my favourite looks from different awards shows.  If you haven't been here before, firstly hello and basically, I just absolutely love awards shows. For me, celeb spotting on the red carpet is most definitely the best part! Here are my favourite looks from last night:

Firstly, Selena Gomez looks absolutely stunning in red! I love how elegant this look is but yet still is very glamorous. Definiely one of the best looks of the night for me.
